What can you expect on the day of taking your first aid course with Altta?

In business, in life, a First Aid course will be one of the most important courses you will ever take. As you know, an emergency can happen at any time, and it’s only then that we truly realise knowing first aid is going to save that individual’s life. Although many people will have to undertake first aid training due to workplace regulations, it is an important skill to have under your belt whether you’re working for a company or would like to know the knowledge for an important situation.

We welcome everyone to our first aid courses, we want to teach as many people as possible how to effectively use first and effectively save more lives. At our academy we deliver 4 key first aid courses, these include:

Each of these courses offers valuable tutoring and allow you to acquire new skills for treating and tending to injuries and illnesses. However, whichever course you wish to choose to apply for, this blog will be discussing what you can expect from arriving at Altta through to after completion of the course.

How to prepare:

3 days of learning CPR manoeuvres and writing theory may appear daunting to some, this causes many people to worry and start researching into what to expect before attending. However, you can have some knowledge or none at all, but either way, you do not need any knowledge prior to taking our course.

In reality, turning to the internet for help may end up making you more confused in the long run, our practical courses are specifically designed people who have never done first aid before, and we have shaped the course around this idea. All we do need you to do is show up on the day with a positive attitude and a committed willingness to participate in our practical activities.

What should you wear?

Altta recommends coming in casual wear that is loose fitting and comfortable for you. You will be sitting down for a period of time, therefore we advise wearing comfort-fit clothes that won’t irritate you. All of our demonstrations will involve kneeling on the floor i.e when performing the CPR manoeuvre.

Due to this, it is best recommended to wear trousers and flat shoes to protect your knees and posture. If you have a disability or physical restraints, first aid courses may not be advisable. We want the experience to be as comfortable and accessible as possible, therefore we will always advise you before you proceed.

What does a First Aid Course involve?

For our 1-day Emergency First Aid at work course (EFAW), participants will be taught a combination of both practical and theory, allowing you to engage with the lesson and thus improve the memorability. You will learn how to assess an accident, use a defibrillator and learn how to support lives when someone is bleeding, or there has been trauma. The skills you learn will always be valuable, as life-threatening situations can happen at any time and usually without warning.

Our course will discuss various illness and injuries and talk about the most effective approach to treating the individual. You will be taught how to treat a minor burn right through to supporting someone with a head injury.

If you have proceeded with the 3 day first aid course, you will be covering every single topic surrounding first aid training in the workplace. These 3 days will involve engaging presentations, activities and theory to help you remember as much as you can every lesson.

The 1 day emergency course is a full-on event that will have lots of information for you to take in. There are many different skills we will help you to remember, including; first aid regulations at work, cardiac problem and other primary first aid care.

Each course is different however all follow the same etiquette in regards to wardrobe and expectations. However, the 3 day first aid course will involve a lot more notes than the 1-day emergency first aid at work.

What can you expect on the day?

On the day of your first aid course, when you arrive you will be greeted by our receptionist and then by your tutor. You will then be shown to the kitchen where you can help yourself to hot drinks and snacks, plus we will provide a badge to allow you to park for free in the nearby car lot.

After this, we will show you to the classroom where you will meet the other attendees if there are others booked in for the day/s. After an informal chat and introduction, we will get started with the class. Depending on the course, we will go through a series of slides and then perform some interactive activities (to prevent death by Powerpoint).

After a couple of hands-on activities and fun yet formative discussions, we will provide a theory exam (again depending on the course) to see how much you have processed. Once this is passed you will be given a qualification that lasts three years before you will need to take the 2-day re-qualification course.

We want to warn you that there will be sensitive content.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the training, there will be examples of sensitive content that may cause upset tor distress. Depending on which course you may be taking, there may be examples of gory details including blood or burns. If you do feel uncomfortable with this you may choose to leave the classroom
